Joy Smithers is an actor, singer, presenter and philanthropist. You’ll probably recognise her voice from many TV commercials or even flying high as the soothing welcome board voice for Qantas Airways.
Discovered by fashion designer Jenny Kee at a tender 12 years of age, Joy is a true professional on many platforms. With over 30 years experience as an actor (Bangkok Hilton, Flying Doctors, Home & Away, All Saints), voice artist, vocalist (Eurogliders), songwriter (1989 Aria award winner) she is equally comfortable as an MC or giving a key note address. Joy is also in possession of a huge resume of credits as a television Presenter. From children’s early learning programs to Travel and Lifestyle, News and Current Affairs, Joy has covered it all many times over in her long career preferring small teams to large crews.
Since 2001, Joy has produced and directed 3 documentaries to highlight the plight of Children living with HIV in South East Asia. Founder of the Gold coin HIV AIDS education program “Shades for Aids” launched in 2009 by Education Minister Verity Firth, Joy lists this as her most exciting and rewarding credit. She is also an active board member for the Hope for Cambodian Children’s Foundation.
