Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC was born and grew up in South Australia.
She studied economics at the University of Adelaide, becoming the first female captain of the University boat club in its 103-year history. She began working at the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs in 1985, where she would go on to be appointed as the Department head 30 years later.
Her Excellency served as Australia’s Ambassador to China and also in the Australian High Commission in London. She has also been International Adviser to the Prime Minister and Chief of Staff to the Foreign Minister and Defence Minister.
In 2021, Her Excellency was appointed as the 36th Governor of South Australia.
She is patron of over 120 organisations in her own right and more than 50 jointly with her husband Rod.
